Lesson Type: Dialogue
Teaching Aims:
　　1. Get the students to know how to make a telephone call .
　　2. Study the language points concerned with the dialogue .
Focal Points and Difficult Points:
　　1. Useful expressions in the telephone talk .
　　2. The usage of the modal verbs (must ,can, can't, may).
Teaching Aids:
　　A recorder, a tape, a projector and some slides .
Teaching Procedures:
I Lead-in:
　　A free talk with the students to talk about how to organize a party. Ask some questions.
II Dialogue Presentation:
　　1. The teacher's brief introduction.
　　2. First Listening. Get the students to listen to Dialogue I, and answer the following questions:
　　　　1) What do Mary and Lizzy have to do ?
　　　　2) How many people are coming to the conference?
　　　　3) Why do they need the buses ?
　　3. Second Listening. After the students listen to the tape, ask them to fill in the follow-ing blanks.
　　1) It is a 　　　　conference.

　　4. Deal with the language points.

　　　2) What does Mary want Pat to do ?
　　　3) What's Mary's telephone number ?
　　2. Ask a pair to read the dialogue.
　　3. Pick out the expressions about making telephone
call from the dialogues, then fill in the blanks.
　　　1) If you try to ring up someone but you hear only the busy sounds in the receiver,
　　　　you say: 　　　　　or
　　　2) If you ask for Pat on the phone , you say: ?
　　　3) If you want the person on the phone to wait for a moment, you say:

　　　　　7) Take a message . 8) Do you have my number ?
　　　2 Here is the situation for the students to practise making telephone calls .Ask them to make dialogues similar to Dialogue II .
　　　Situation:
　　　You want to talk to your friend Mr. Brown ,but he is at a meeting, so you leave a message and want him to ring you back as soon as the meeting
is over . Your telephone number is 5590496 .

V Dialogue Production :
　　Ask the students to make dialogues about making telephone calls .
　　Situation:
　　You are Lily . You want to borrow an English dictionary from your friend
Tom . Ask him to bring it to school tomorrow .

VI Consolidation :
　　WB (Lesson 97)
　　　　　1. Ex. 1 : Read and act out the dialogue in pairs .
　　　　　2. Ex. 3 : Complete each of the sentences with "How" or "What", then check
　　　　　the answers with the whole class .
VII Homework :
　　　　　Do Ex. 4 in the exercise books .
